Kia Ora, welcome to the Southern Regional Health School

The Southern Regional Health School is a school for children who are sick.

We are a state school for students from Years 1 to 13 who are too ill to attend full-time education at their usual school. We teach students anywhere in the South Island.

Teachers at the Southern Regional Health School work with students, their families and their schools to keep up students' learning during their illness and to help them return to full-time education at their school as quickly as possible.

Do you think your child should come to the Southern Regional Health School? Read the page about who can be admitted to our school.

A number of initiatives are underway to make sure that everyone can find out about us. The combined New Zealand health schools are investing in a shared national website with links to each region. As well Amanda, our Executive Officer has organised a freephone number for this school for use by those outside Christchurch. 0800 SRHS 800 will bring you directly to Cardale House in Christchurch where our school Secretary, Evelyn will answer your inquiries and redirect you to the appropriate person. Later in term4 all of our teachers throughout the South Island will have individualised voicemails.
Two vacancies are being advertised. One at Cardale House is for a careers transition and gateway specialist who will help senior students with pathways that may not lead back to their school of enrolment but to one of the various options for further education and training.
The other is in Blenheim where we will be making a permanent appointment to cover the Rai Valley - Blenheim - Picton - Kaikoura districts. The Ministry of Education is currently working with us to find suitable premises in central Blenheim.
In the New Year, staffing permitting , we hope to appoint a trained reading recovery teacher to Cardale House who can help all of our students and also pass on skills and strategies to other staff.
